Sweet, Creamy Vanilla Cold Brew

Craving a certain fancy coffee shop cold brew, but trying to stick to a budget?

Daily coffee from the drive-thru can really add up! You can save a lot by making your own cold brew coffee at home. A kilogram of coffee beans for $15-$20 can make a cup a day for a month or more which is a huge savings compared to the daily coffee shop drive-thru for $4-$10 per drink!

–But why cold brew? There are several benefits to the cold brewing process.

Benefits of cold brew coffee include slight sweetness, balanced taste, easy to make, extra smooth, low acidity, no bittterness.

Cold brewed coffee is slightly sweeter than hot brewed coffee, it’s easy to make, has less acidity (so it’s great for those prone to heartburn like me), it’s smoother, less bitter, and has a nice, balanced flavour.

Start your cold brew the night before, and in the morning you’ll have the gift of coffee that’s ready to drink cold or heat it up to enjoy it hot.

Make your own sweet vanilla cream cold brew at home:

Step 1: Cold brew concentrate – make a batch of extra strong cold brew coffee by filling the filter insert of the Cold Brew Carafe to the second line. Fill the carafe with cold, filtered water, and brew for 12-14 hours. Pull out the filter and refrigerate the cold brew concentrate for up to two weeks.

Step 2: Vanilla simple syrup – combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave 60 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until the sugar is dissolved (about 3 minutes). Add 2 tsp of vanilla and stir. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks

Step 3: Add ice cubes or frozen coffee cubes to a large tumbler. Add 1 cup of cold brew concentrate, 1/4 cup of vanilla simple syrup, and 1/4 cup of half & half 10% cream. Stir. Adjust to taste.
